Head Office

Dr. Ullrich Stein is the head of the office and main coordinator of the Fraunhofer Center for Digital Diagnostics ZDD at the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology, Bioanalytics and Bioprocesses Division IZI-BB. He is primarily responsible for the overall coordination of the ZDD's content and organization, as well as the strategic development of the network structure within the framework of the Fraunhofer health research strategy. After studying biotechnology and obtaining his doctorate at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, he worked in various positions in the field of science management and transfer. His areas of expertise include digital diagnostics, translational health innovations, and the management of interdisciplinary research networks at the interface of science, politics, and healthcare practice.

Dr. rer. med. Katrin Wrede-Wihl is a certified patholinguist specializing in neurolinguistics and clinical-translational research. After completing her doctorate at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences and the University of Leipzig, she conducted research on the reorganization of language networks after stroke and later led interdisciplinary teams in neurological rehabilitation. As head of department at the St. Mauritius Therapy Clinic, she was responsible for the further development of scientifically based therapy concepts and the establishment of clinical networks. She then worked at the German Heart Center at Charité, where she led scientific projects in the field of cardiovascular diagnostics. At the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology, Institute Divison Bioanalytics and Bioprocesses IZI-BB, she is currently involved in the Fraunhofer Center for Digital Diagnostics ZDD, where she works to connect scientific, economic, municipal, and clinical stakeholders with the aim of sustainably linking research, innovation, and healthcare in the state of Brandenburg.

Directorate

Since August 2013, Professor Antje Baeumner directs the Institute of Analytical Chemistry, Chemo- and Biosensorics at the University of Regensburg. Previously, she was Professor and Director of the BEE Graduate School at Cornell University in New York/USA, where she remains an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Engineering and a member of the Research Training Groups for Food Science and Technology and Biomedical Engineering. Prof. Dr. Antje Bäumner has been director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology, Institute Division Bioanalytics and Bioprocesses IZI-BB since September 2023.

 

After holding various postdoctoral positions at the MDC Berlin and the University of Potsdam, Dr. Eva Ehrentreich-Förster joined the Fraunhofer Society in 1998. Until June 2014, she worked at the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering in St. Ingbert, in the Department of Molecular Bioanalytics & Bioelectronics. Since July 2014, she has headed the Bioanalytics and Biosensorics Department at Fraunhofer IZI-BB and represented the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology, Institute Division Bioanalytics & Bioprocesses IZI-BB from October 2019 to August 2023 as acting director and then as deputy director.

Prof. Dr. Dr. Köhl has been director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology IZI in Leipzig and the Institute for Clinical Immunology at the University Medical Center Leipzig since 2017. The most important stations of her scientific career were the Johan-Wolfgang-Goethe-University Frankfurt (studies), the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Huston/USA (PostDoc), the University Hospital in Frankfurt (Head of the Laboratory for Stem Cell Transplantation and Immunotherapy) and the Hannover Medical School (Director of the Institute for Cell Therapeutics).

Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Peter Liggesmeyer is head of the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering IESE in Kaiserslautern and has held the Chair of Software Engineering: Dependability at the Department of Computer Science at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern since 2004. From 2014 to 2017, he guided the Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI e.V.) as its president. He is deputy speaker of the Fraunhofer Strategic Research Area "Intelligent Medicine" as well as of the Fraunhofer Lead Market "Food Industry".
